Noodle takes Pgh!

Change of plans.  Noodle came to Pittsburgh a week early! He was SO excited to ride on an airplane "by all himself" and did beautifully.  I wish I could say the same for the Dr. and I. We were an anxious mess waiting for his plane to land. It seemed like an eternity.
And then...there he was.  Walking off the plane like a big boy. That sweet, smiling face in desperate need of a haircut that I missed like crazy.
Off the plane...
..and into my arms!!!

We've had a lot of fun the last few days showing our new little 'burgher his new home.
Check out this face as we drove into the city that according to New York Magazine is "the only city with an entrance."

Somebody else really missed the Noodle...

First stop? A trip up the incline, of course! This was our first time taking the Monongahela instead of the Duquesne. Bad idea on the hottest day of the year.  The Duquesne incline has screens for windows making for a lovely breeze.  Monongahela does not.  To say we were sweaty is putting it nicely.  At the top, the Noodle's first words were, "It's beautiful!" Yes, it is.  Those two words just made every drop of sweat rolling down my back right now, worth it.

After being stuck in a 1,000° sweat box we had to stop for ice cream on Mt. Washington.  Yes, HAD TO. If you've ever had to deal with two hot, sweaty, cranky boys being forced to smile pretty for pictures, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
smiles came a lot easier after some frozen goodness :)))))

Then to our favorite park...Fall Run. Where the boys (& Ellie!)  hiked to the top of the waterfall.  The Noodle loved walking IN the creek bed.  As I walked along the trail, I could hear him yell, "this is awesome!"

The Dr. was out of town today on a rafting trip with his fellow residents, so the Noodle and I decided to check out the neighborhood pool. Between the slide and the diving board he was IN HEAVEN.  I think he went down this slide about 746 times.  And he made his first friend.
Noodle about to go down the slide...again.

It's been a successful, fun, firefly catchin' first three days.
We're all looking forward to making a lot more memories in the 'burgh.

We heart Pittsburgh.

Yesterday marked one month for life in the 'burgh.  And believe it or not, the city of steel has stolen our hearts.  Yep, you yins heard right. We love it.

My guess is, we'll love it even more when this boogie gets here.

♥ oh July 26th, where art thou??

watercolor calendar from Linda & Harriet.

July is going to be a long month.  Normally, I would have absolutely no problem with this.  As a teacher, July is generally a month of lazy mornings and days spent with the Noodle. The fact that I'm also turning 30 in August is just another reason I would usually have NO problem with July moving as slowly as it wants.  But, this summer is unusual.  Every day just gets loonger and looonger. And not for just one reason, but for many reasons..

Reason #1: This kid right here.

It has now been 19 days since I've seen my Noodle,
with the exception of some Skype talks..

and kisses.

Did being childless for our 17 hour drive to Pittsburgh have it's benefits?  Absolutely.
Does being childless while we're making new friends with the Dr.'s fellow residents (all childless) have its perks? You bet.

But, I would give up any "perks" to have a real kiss from the Noodle.  To read him a bedtime story.  To take him to the pool, a baseball game, to show him his new room..  A piece of me feels dead inside every day we are not together. Moms, you know what I'm talking about.  And I have 25 more days to go. TWENTY-FIVE! That seems like a lifetime right now! This is why July 26th can not get here soon enough.

Reason #2:  Residency starts: NOW.

Ellie and I are going to become best friends.  Today marks the first day of residency.  Lectures every day and 10 hour shifts.  The Dr.'s very first ED shift? 5pm-3am.  Welcome to the next 3 years.  Now, I'm not really complaining... I'm well aware of what residency will entail for the Dr. & our family and I know it could always be worse. I'm just saying... July is going to be a long month.

Reason #3: PAY DAY!

Moving is costly.  Moving 970 miles away is even more costly.

Paying double rent is costly.  Paying double rent for two months is twice as costly.

The Dr.'s first paycheck is coming July 22nd.  Do believe we are counting down the days. Which again, makes July feel extra long.

Reason #4: My bests.

I'm not sure if it is the emotion evoking, blurry vignette of the photo or if it was the song playing the time I first saw it (Colbie Caillat's I never told you which says "And after all the things we've been through..I miss everything about you..without you") which is technically a love song, but hey, we love each other! Whatever it was, when I first saw this picture a wave of homesickness came over me.  My first one.  Yes, I miss the Noodle all the time, but this was a different kind of homesickness.  I had the strongest urge to just scream, "ACK!" and hop on the next plane outta here.  Luckily, my rational side won out. Due to reason #3, there will be no impromptu flights home.

Two of these girls and I will be celebrating our 30th birthdays in Vegas the first week of August.  Just one more reason July is going to be the loooongest month.  EVER.
