Home.

In the next two weeks we are having some pretty sweet visits to the Burgh. And we're pretty beyond excited.
My mom will be here in four days.  Two days later, my bestest friend and Latino brother are coming for the weekend. The following week my partner-in-crime and fellow NFG lover is coming up so we can road-trip it to Buffalo to see New Found Glory for oh, about the 37th time. And the week after that, my Dad will be here. (:

.....buuuuuutttt, even all these upcoming visits don't seem to be satisfying my overwhelming desire to go HOME!!!! I want to be at the Oak Ridge Homecoming game. I want to drink around the world at Food & Wine Festival. I want to eat Thanksgiving dinner and have do-or-die Tabu matches with my favorite friends. I want to sit on my parents back porch drinking margaritas that will inevitably lead to an impromptu REO Speedwagon concert. I. Want. To. Go. HOME.

30 Days About Me. Days 8 & 9.

Day 8: Something You Hate
I hate the word hate. I like I to think there is nothing I truly hate.  But, there are a few things I strongly dislike. One of them is ignorance.  Dictionary.com defines ignorance as "lack of knowledge, learning, information.." It's not so much lack of knowledge I dislike. It's more the lack of learning. Not caring whether the information you have is correct or whether you have any information at all. You don't have to be intelligent, just don't be ignorant. Ignorance is not bliss. It's ignorance.

Day 9: Something That Makes Your Life Easier
Let me tell you... I love coffee and I love modern conveniences.  I'm a firm believer that there is no need to reinvent the wheel or do things the hard way.  I prefer to take the easy road.. after a strong cup of coffee.
Some of the many things that make my life easier:
#9  Caffeine - How do people give this up?
#8  My iPhone - I don't even have a house phone, haven't in years. My phone is also my camera.
#7  My MacBook - Because sometimes it's just easier than the phone.
#6  My car- My neighborhood apparently doesn't like sidewalks which hinders my attempt at walking.
#5  DVR - Oh, I remember the days of trying to set the VCR. No more!
#4  App Store - I have an app for everything. I blog, bank, buy plane tickets, find hot restaurants, recipes and track my calories...all from my phone.
#3  My Swiffer Wet Jet - The Dr. likes to mop mop. Like, old school mop. I do not. I like to Swiffer.
#2  Washing Machine - I like doing laundry. I'm pretty sure this would NOT be the case if I had to wash it all by hand.

All of these things truly help make my life easier, but coming in at #1 (yes, I know he is not a "thing") is The Doctor, who hands down makes my life a helluva lot easier. As a former single parent I really know how helpful an extra parent is. Two is certainly easier than one. And lucky for me, I have a partner who works hard and takes care of so much for our family. In fact, just yesterday the Dr. cleaned the bathroom, mopped (not swiffered) the floors, escorted me to the Public Market, mowed the lawn, made Batman cuffs for & played a game of chess with the Noodle, did the dishes, and cheered me up after having a mini-breakdown. Did I mention he is also a resident physician who works an average of  12 hours/day?! Whew! It wears me out just typing it all!

30 Days About Me. Days 6 & 7

Day 6: Most Treasured Item.
My most treasured item. Hmmm... Do the Dr. & the Noodle count as items?  I like many items.  My iPhone & MacBook because they're awesome, make my life so much easier, and help me keep in contact  with the friends and fam I miss so much.  My engagement & wedding rings because they remind me of the love and commitment I made to the most amazing man I have ever known.

But, my Dad always told me never to get attached to "things" and I really try not to. So, if I have to choose ONE item I treasure I would choose my rocking chair.  The rocking chair belonged to my Great-Grandmother then my Mother and now it's mine.  It is the rocker that I used for the Noodle's first four years and then loaned to my best friend Leti to use with her son (my Godson) Brayden.  We recently got the rocker back when we made the move to Pittsburgh.  I plan on using it to rock & nurse our future children and hopefully one day,  I can pass it on to them as well.

Day 7: A Photo That Makes You Happy.
The Dr. & The Noodle await the Mrs.
Why does this photo make me happy? Let me count the ways.

1.  It was taken on the greatest day of my life.
2.  It is a photo of the two people I love most in the world.
3.  I love am obsessed with watching a Groom's face as his Bride walks down the aisle, so how fantastic is it to see the Groom's AND the son's face????? LOVE.

30 Days About Me. Day 5: Favorite Quote

I love words, so therefore...I love quotes.  Here are my two favorites:

I don't know Jeanette Winterson, but I'm pretty sure she's a damn genius.  I'm living this quote right now! Except...I never forget to clean my teeth.  Remembering to put on deodorant? Now that is an entirely different story.  You can ask my roommate for the last 2 weeks about that one.  So, if you happen to see smell someone in Pittsburgh who looks like me, it probably is.  This is natural.

True. Freaking. Story.  I say this one. A LOT. The Dr. even incorporated it into his vows making me love it even more.

30 Days About Me. Day 4: Favorite Book

I love a lot of books. Seriously. Books are one of those things I either LOVE and it makes my list of faves or I don't like it at all and don't finish reading it. There really is no in between for me.

Buuuuut..with that said, if I HAVE to pick a favorite I have to say the Harry Potter series. I admit it. I'm pretty much obsessed with all things Harry Potter. I'm the nerd who attends the late night party at B&N for the new book release, goes to see every movie at midnight the night it comes out, makes HP references whenever possible, and celebrates Harry's birthday. In fact, this year for Harry's birthday a couple of friends and I celebrated by going to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure in Orlando. Our day consisted of lots of butterbeer, shopping in diagon alley, and a Hungarian Horntail. I was like a kid in a candy store. Jumping up and down, screaming like a school girl. Nerdy? Perhaps. But it definitely ranks in the top 5 of BEST DAYS EVER. Evereverever.

We are both in "Muggle denial"

But the best thing? I've converted the Noodle to a Harry Potter fan! My motherhood duty is now complete. *sigh*

30 Days About Me. Day 3: Favorite TV Show

Welcome to day 3 of "30 Days About Me". My favorite television show.  I find it next to impossible to choose just one favorite TV show. So, I've made a list of all the shows I love and why I love them.

TV shows I love right now:

So You Think You Can Dance.  Wednesday & Thursday are seriously my favorite days when SYTYCD is airing.  I look forward to this show ALL week and get so excited just to plop myself down on the couch and be entertained by amazing dancing.

Entourage.  This is one the Dr. and I enjoy together.  And pretty much the only reason we still subscribe to HBO.  Entourage is currently airing its last season.  I realize all good things must come to an end, but I am going to miss all the shenanigans of Ari, Vince, E and the rest of the boys more than I care to admit.

Modern Family.  This show is clever. And hilarious. There's a reason it earned 17 Emmy nominations this year.  If you aren't currently watching Modern Family, please start.  This is one of the two shows we actually watch as a family.  And all 3 of us LOVE it.

Glee. This is the other show we all watch together. The jury is still out on whether or not the Dr. truly enjoys it. But, being the awesome husband & father he is, he watches it with us anyway. Noodle and I are definitely Gleeks.  We can't get enough of all the singing and dancing.  It makes our hearts smile.

Survivor.  I have been watching Survivor since it began 11 years ago.  I started out watching it at home with my parents and now I am able to share it with my Noodle.  The Dr. will even occasionally catch an episode with us, but I haven't converted him to a true fan just yet.

Grey's Anatomy.  This used to be one the Dr. and I would watch together, but the farther he got through medical school the less he would watch, until he just stopped watching at all. No, maybe it doesn't accurately portray what goes on at a hospital, but I don't care! I can't get enough of all the drama, excitement, and love triangles.

Damages.  Best. Show. On TV. Glen Close is incredible and the plot keeps you hanging all season long just to be blown away in the season finale. I can't get enough. Seriously.

TV Shows I will love forever:

Sex and the City.  I own every episode on DVD and if I ever need to cheer up, this is what I put on.  Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha, & Miranda know just how to make me feel better. My girlfriends and I used to have SATC Sunday night parties where we would drink cosmos & eat chinese take-out. I miss those days. *sniff. sniff.*

The West Wing.  I started watching this with my parents and I was obsessed. Seriously. I have plenty of friends who remember me calling them on a random Thursday to 'PLEASE record The West Wing!!!!' because I had forgotten to set my VCR. Ha!

Nip/Tuck.  This show was outragreous and I loved every second of it.  I am especially fond of Christian Troy & Sean McNamara and the actors who played them so well, who a friend and I actually got to meet in Vegas in 2007. They were super friendly and kind.
Dylan Walsh, The Mrs, Julian McMahon & Ashley

There you have it.  My favorite TV shows.  Wow, now I realize why my DVR is always full.

The Mrs.
